Barbara grew up in Hamtramck where she attended Cass Tech high school, just across the street from the old Tiger Stadium. She became a Detroit Tigers fan at a young age and carried this legacy throughout life, sharing it with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also shared her love of baseball by working the concession stand at little league games for her grandchildren’s teams. Her love of baseball was evident to all who knew her, as she never missed a game on television.
Raising all of her children in Long Beach, California, Barbara eventually moved back to Michigan many years later to be closer to family. Barbara loved her family dearly, and she cherished memories she made with them. She was the ultimate grandmother and enjoyed supporting all the activities her grandchildren participated in. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and she loved decorating and hosting her family, always having a houseful brought her great joy.
Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter Sherry Gobble and siblings Charles Thompson, Ann Johnson, and Richard Thompson.
She is survived by children Gerald Thompson, Patricia (Eddie) Ybarra, Pamala Neisler (Kevin Lang), and Rogena (Robert) Zuverink); grandchildren Randy (Christina) Moore, Dawn (Jeremy) Nosrati, Stephanie Swetzig, Jennifer Moore, Kara (Dillon) Lipe, Justin (Ella) Zuverink, Leah Zuverink, Jesse Luithle, and Breana DeRoo. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Kaylee Voutsas, Makenna Blair, Trystan Blair, Hannah Moore, Carter Moore, Levi Zuverink, Aden Nosrati, Emily Howard, and Lily Howard. In addition, she is survived by siblings Allwyn Thompson, Robert Thompson, Donald Thompson, and Marilyn Kucker.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
