ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 4, 2025) – A Zeeland Christian graduate who came home to teach is now the leader of the school she had attended.
Betsy Koop was named last week as ZCS’ Head of School, culminating a nationwide search for a new leader when Tim McAboy moved to Ohio. Koop, who has been at the school for 15 years in a variety of positions, most recently as elementary principal, is also a Hope College graduate, and earned her Master’s degree at the University of Minnesota. She had spent a couple of years teaching in Central America before returning to Zeeland Christian.
“I am thrilled to lead Zeeland Christian into its next chapter. This school’s legacy has shaped my faith and journey, and I am honored to work with our outstanding staff and families to continue carrying out the motto of ‘Love God. Love Kids. Love Learning.’” – Betsy Koop
Her hiring comes as the school marks its 110th anniversary and prepares to launch a comprehensive five-year strategic plan. Koop will finish out the current academic year as elementary principal before assuming her new duties, with Tom DeJonge remaining as interim Head of School until July 1st.
