ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 30, 2025) – As the month of January draws to a close, so too does the season of annual prognostications when it comes to the economy for 2025.
On Wednesday, Grand Valley State’s associate dean and professor of economics Paul Isley released his annual report on what lies ahead for the economy in the Ottawa-Allegan-Kent-Muskegon region. He believes that growth will be slightly faster for the next 12 months, as compared to the previous dozen.
Dr. Isley’s data indicated that employment will improve to 1.6 percent, sales to 3.6 percent, and wages to 3.4 percent in 2025. All three numbers are modestly improved. Areas of concern include possibly higher tariffs, falling consumer spending, and increased numbers of long-term unemployment.
