Geneva had many interests in her life, but nothing compares to the love she had for her family. She enjoyed spending time and making memories with her loved ones and maintained these special relationships throughout her life. When she wasn’t spending time with family, she could be found outside in the garden tending to vegetables and beautiful flowers.
Geneva was also strong in her faith, teaching Sunday school at Harlem Reformed Church for many years and sharing the word of God with others. Above all, Geneva had a servant’s heart. She was quick to help others and was generous with her time and talents. Working for many years at the Ottawa Area Center as an aide, she played an important role in shaping children’s lives. Through her selfless actions in both her personal and professional lives, she impacted countless people in positive ways.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents Tim and Johanna (Rietman) Slagh, husband Lavern Berkompas in 2004, daughter Lynda Berkompas, and great-granddaughter Lucy Berkompas.
She is survived by children Rodney (Linda) Berkompas and Paul Berkompas; grandchildren Travis (Christie) Berkompas, Keely (Troy) VanHooren, Kourtney (Matt) Jansma, Rae Ann (Jeff) Moore, and Skyler Berkompas. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Lola, Gwen, and Eva Berkompas, Cooper Jansma, and Boden & Hendrik Moore. In addition, she is survived by her sister Carolyn (Roger) Brandson, sisters-in-law Dolores Slagh, Arlene Slagh, Lois Hulst, and Carolyn (Bill) Overway.
