ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 18, 2025) – A 21-year-old Muskegon man is in the Ottawa County Jail, awaiting arraignment on charges stemming from an early Saturday morning parking lot robbery and altercation outside of an apartment building, just west of the Grand Valley State University main campus in Allendale.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Dill, deputies were dispatched to the 48 West complex, off of 48th Avenue south of Lake Michigan Drive, around 2:10 AM on a report that a man, who had been approached by a group of other men, had been threatened with a firearm and took his sunglasses. The suspects had fled in a SUV before deputies arrived, but the law officers were able to spot a matching vehicle nearby. A traffic stop was attempted, but the SUV sped away eastbound on M-45, and a chase was halted when the suspects entered Standale. Those suspects were still at large as of dawn on Saturday.
Meanwhile, back at the complex, a fight had broken out, and other deputies were called in to break up the melee. A witness pointed out that one person was armed with a handgun, and despite the efforts of that suspect to hide away, he was apprehended without further incident.
Dill pointed out that there were no injuries reported, and that none of the subjects in the investigation into this matter are believed to be GVSU students. The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact detectives with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office (616-738-4000) or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536.
