Hope College’s Greta Gidley has been chosen as the MIAA Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week.
The senior from Franklin, Michigan (Mercy HS) is receiving the honor for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career.
Gidley set three meet records at the Michigan/Illinois Quad meet hosted over the weekend by Wheaton College (Illinois).
The elementary education major first swam the breaststroke leg in the 400-yard medley relay. Gidley’s split time of 1 minute, 5.87 seconds helped Hope’s relay team post a winning time of 3:56.58 and break the meet record set in 2015.
In the 200 backstroke, Gidley swam the event just the second time in her college career, and her time of 2:05.35 broke a 24-year-old meet record.
Gidley also led off the 400 free relay in a time of 52.37, helping the relay post a winning time of 3:31.22 and bettering the previous mark set in 2009.
