HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 9, 2025) – It was a relatively quiet Holland City Council meeting on Wednesday night.
After an hour-long “Coffee with Council” session, in which the public had a chance to chat with Council Members and city staffers about concerns ahead of the Fiscal 2026 budget-making process, the chief matter before the governing body was amending a Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement and a Municipal Services Agreement with the non-profit Dwelling Place for developing affordable housing on city land off of 10th Street.
The plan is to build a five-unit complex for First Hope on 10th Street, along with 38 units for the nearby Kollen Park Apartments. The agreements call for Dwelling Place to pay four percent of shelter rents annually in property taxes, and two percent for municipal services.
The pacts had been approved earlier, but delays by Dwelling Place in securing state grants for the project necessitated this request for the extension, according to the city’s Community and Neighborhood Services Director Mark Meyers.
The extension was unanimously approved by Council, and Meyers said that Dwelling Place looks to close on the project by this April.
The next “Coffee with Council” is from 9-11:30 AM this coming Saturday, January 11, at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center.
