This evening, four girls/boys doubleheaders headline prep hoops action. At 5:40 PM, Greg Chandler will provide complete coverage for the twin bill between Zeeland West and Holland Christian at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place on 99 7/1450 WHTC. Other such match ups include Holland at Spring Lake, Hudsonville at West Ottawa, and Zeeland East at Unity Christian. In addition, Black River’s boys entertain Grand Rapids Sacred Heart.

Grand Valley State split a basketball doubleheader with visiting Michigan Tech at the Fieldhouse Arena last night. Rylie Bisballe’s 15 points helped the Lakers take the women’s opener, 93-52. Ty Fernholz capped an 18-point performance off the bench by hitting a triple with 1:23 left to give the Huskies a 59-58 decision in the men’s nightcap. GVSU hosts Northern Michigan in another women’s/men’s twin bill in Allendale tomorrow afternoon.
In state major-college basketball last night, Detroit Mercy edged Robert Morris in overtime, 78-76, and Oakland downed Milwaukee, 65-49. This evening, Michigan State is at Ohio State.

Jonathan Berggren’s goal with 36 seconds left lifted the Red Wings past the Blue Jackets in Columbus last night, 5-4. Detroit skates in Winnipeg against the Jets tomorrow afternoon.
