LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 29, 2024) – Could a Lakeshore community have a new operational leader in place by New Year’s Day?
The Laketown Township Board of Trustees has scheduled a special meeting for Monday evening to address several issues. Topping the list is offering a contract to a prospective new Township Manager, as Al Meshkin will retire from that post after 35 years on January 3rd.
Following an application and interview process assisted by former Holland City Manager Ryan Cotton, the board’s search committee recommended current Allegan County Clerk and Register of Deeds Bob Genetski, and put forward to the full board a contract proposal worth $110,000 annually, with bonuses included. However, the board was split on approving such a proposal in an earlier meeting nearly three weeks ago, with two objectors feeling that Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman, who was bypassed in favor of Genetski by the search committee in the final decision, was a better fit.
Genetski, already reelected on November 5th to a third four-year term as County Clerk and Register of Deeds, is taking the high road on all this.
The township board is also expected to take up a rezoning request for 51 acres off of 147th Avenue and 60th Street that was stopped by a split vote earlier this month.
The special Laketown Township Board meeting begins on Monday at 6 PM in the township hall (4338 Beeline Rd.).
