Jennie Vander Woude, 95, of Zeeland, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Raybrook Manor.
Jennie was born October 18, 1929, in Zeeland, Michigan, to Ben and Anna (Veldman) DeBoer. Jennie graduated from Holland Christian High School. She received her RN degree from the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California, and worked thirty years as an RN. She taught many “nurse’s aide” classes for the Holland Board of Education.
Jennie married Russell J. Vander Woude in 1957. She also became the mother of two little girls, Karen and Marianne, and they were blessings to each other throughout their lives. Jennie was a charter member of Haven Christian Reformed Church and a current member of North Street CRC. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, and also in the Evergreen Singers for 19 years. Jennie also enjoyed reading, counted cross-stitch, and playing games.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband Russell J. Vander Woude in 1991, her daughter and son-in-law Karen & Bob Steenwyk, son-in-law Ken Gritter, siblings: George DeBoer, Bob DeBoer; in-laws: Ruth DeBoer, Vicki DeBoer, Ken Diepenhorst, and Irene Vander Woude.
She is survived by her daughter Marianne Gritter, grandchildren: John and Katy Steenwyk, Joel and Jenifer Gritter, Brad and Ariel Gritter; great-grandchildren: Erica & Austin Greenland, Anne Gritter, Hope Gritter, Will Gritter, Clara Gritter, siblings: John DeBoer, Bette Diepenhorst; sister-in-law Judy DeBoer, and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 11:30 am – 12:45 pm Friday, prior to the funeral at Yntema’s. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery (Original). Memorial contributions may be made to The Bible League or Pathway Ministries.
