LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 22, 2024) – Joblessness along the Lakeshore stayed pretty steady during the month of October.
That’s according to numbers disclosed on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. The not seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Ottawa County in October stood at 3.3 percent. That’s the second lowest among the state’s 83 counties, topped only by Livingston County’s 3.2 percent. The Ottawa rate remained constant from September’s level, but was two tenths of a percentage point higher that at this time last year.
Allegan County joblessness in October stood at 3.6 percent, tied for fourth lowest statewide with Clinton, Kent and Mackinac counties. The Allegan rate was two tenths of a percentage point higher than in September and for this time in 2023.
Overall, unemployment rose in 15 of Michigan’s 17 major labor markets, including Grand Rapids, which includes Ottawa County, from 3.5 to 3.6 percent. Allegan County was among 71 statewide that had jobless rate gains in October.
State officials do add that payroll jobs and labor force levels have risen considerably in most Michigan regions in the past year.
