UNDATED, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 17, 2024) – Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies and other first responders were dispatched to two separate injury crashes that occurred 10 minutes and 18 miles apart on Sunday afternoon.
The first occurred at the junction of US-31 and Ferris Street, south of Grand Haven, around 12:30 PM. That was where a northbound SUV apparently drove through a red light and slammed into an eastbound sedan. The two motorists – a 64-year-old Allendale woman and a 65-year-old Grand Haven woman, neither of whom were identified by authorities – were taken to undisclosed hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was cited for not stopping for the traffic signal.
The second happened about 10 minutes later at the junction of 48th Avenue and Fillmore Street, southwest of the GVSU campus near Allendale. That was where a southbound Jeep had attempted to turn left and collided with a northbound pickup. The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old Zeeland man, along with a 29-year-old female passenger from Grand Haven, as well as a 27-year-old Grand Haven woman in the Jeep, were all hospitalized, while the 33-year-old Grand Haven man driving the Jeep suffered bumps and bruises, along with receiving a ticket for failing to yield.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
