Erwin was a Korean War veteran, serving as a private in the US Army overseas. He received a purple heart after being wounded in the line of duty. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them throughout the years. Erwin was also an avid golfer and loved to watch football games, particularly while enjoying sweet treats like chocolate chip cookies or ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Elizabeth Koets in 2016 as well as by his brother Howard (Joyce) Koets in 2017.
Erwin is survived by children Carol (Colby) Ballert, Laura (David) Rodgers, and Heidi (Bruce) Hallanger; grandchildren Brendan (Janie) Ballert, Nicolas (Megan) Hallanger, Tracy Rodgers (Micah), Holly Metty (Brock), Cassandra Ballert (Cedric), Christopher (Taylor) Hallanger, Darla Rodgers (Drew), Lucy (Chris) Nuttall, Zachary (Briana)Ballert, and Trisha Metty (Dustin). He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
