Carol was born December 18, 1953, in Zeeland, Michigan, to Melvin N. and Joan (Drew) Boerman. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1972. Carol worked for 25 years at Haworth, and later at Michigan Works for 15 years. She married Ron De Ruiter on February 23, 2007, and they are members of Calvary Christian Reformed Church. Carol was a founding member of the WOW Group, where she was known as Freebird. She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Ron Emmert, Dirk Walters, nephews: Kelly Boerman, Josh Boerman.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Ron De Ruiter, children & grandchildren: Seth & Casey Boeve (Atticus, Eris), Cortney Boeve (MaKaiah, Ryker), Joshua & Holly De Ruiter (Makayla, Josiah, Silas), Tara Olger (Wilden, Ashlynne), Candi & Guy Stone (Carson, Nolan); siblings: Patricia & Craig Smith, Melvin “Dick” & Edith Boerman, Doug Boerman & Olya Vnukova; in-laws: Alice Emmert, Donna De Ruiter, Marcia & Steve Besteman, Robert & Sue De Ruiter, Marilyn Walters, and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, November 8, 2024, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 400 Beeline, Holland, MI 49464, with visitation 12noon-12:45 prior to the service. Visitation will also be Thursday, 5:00-8:00 PM, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Private interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Susan B. Komen Foundation.
