LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 31, 2024) – The list of hopefuls for the operational leadership with a Lakeshore community is now at three.
Following a series of five interviews during a special meeting this past Wednesday, the Laketown Township Board of Trustees agreed to ask back Bob Genetski, Brandon Mersman and Karen Sherwood for a second and final round of discussions before deciding who will replace Al Meshkin as Township Manager.
Genetski, a one-time state House Representative, is currently the two-term Allegan County Clerk/Register of Deeds who is seeking a third four-year stretch in this coming Tuesday’s General Election.
Mersman, with degrees from both Hope College and Grand Valley State University, is the current city manager of the Branch County community of Bronson. He has been a planning staffer with the City of Holland and with Ottawa County.
Sherwood has commuted from her home in Saugatuck to Grand Haven Township to serve as that community’s Assistant Manager and Human Resources Director. She is a one-time deputy superintendent of human resources for Holland Public Schools.
Those three answered 18 similar questions from Township Supervisor Linda Howell during Wednesday’s three and a half hour interview session, as she heads up an eight-member search committee of current trustees and those vying for positions on the board in Tuesday’s General Election. Genetski, Mersman and Sherwood were chosen ahead of Peter Bratt and Andrea Dumbrell, as they emerged from among 40 applicants who were paired down to 11 before the five were chosen for the first round of interviews.
Genetski, Mersman and Sherwood will meet with constituents at 1 PM this coming Wednesday, November 6, at the Laketown Township Hall (4338 Beeline Rd.). They will then go through a final round of interviews with the search committee before one of them is offered the position.
