PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 27, 2024) – Although the water fun season along the Lakeshore is over, with the crispness of the autumn fully entrenched, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be anybody still putting their boats onto the water, or that awareness of water safety goes into hibernation until the spring.
On Monday morning from 9 to 10 AM, at the Yacht Basin Marina (1866 Ottawa Beach Rd.), a free water safety session is slated for those to learn more about preventing tragedies on the water. This includes boating safety tips and what to do in dangerous situations.
State 31st District Senator Roger Victory (R-Hudsonville), the current Senate Minority Whip, is behind this event as part of an overall increased awareness of water safety statewide. His Senate Bill 736 would require water safety instruction for all public school students in Michigan.
“Water safety can save lives. According to one tracking effort, at least 77 people drowned in the Great Lakes this year and more than half of those happened in Lake Michigan. We are hosting this water safety event to provide a great opportunity for families to learn more about water safety efforts in our region and hear from those working to protect people from drowning and keep them safe in and around water. The event is free, and everyone is welcome.” – Sen. Roger Victory
