Four from Hope College have been selected as MIAA Women’s Athletes of the Week: senior Carley Wagasky in women’s soccer, junior Amanda Lopykinski in women’s tennis, and senior Addie VanderWeide and junior Lauren Lee in volleyball.
Wagasky (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven HS) is the MIAA Women’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time.
The forward powered the Flying Dutch to two victories last week by scoring four goals. A chemistry major, Wagasky netted a hat trick during a 6-2 victory at Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday and the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at home vs. Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township) is the MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the sixth time in her career.
The neuroscience major reached the Round of 32 in singles play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional last weekend in Kalamazoo. Lopykinski also advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles.
VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) is the MIAA Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career.
The outside hitter and business major helped the Flying Dutch to a 3-0 record against nationally-ranked opponents last week by recording three double-doubles in kills and digs. Hope served a 3-0 victory over 12th-ranked North Park University (Illinois), a 3-1 win against No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a 3-0 victory at No.25 Transylvania University.
In the last three matches, VanderWeide totaled 37 kills, a hitting percentage of .319, four service aces and 38 digs.
Lee is the MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week for the third time this season and the eighth time in her career.
The setter and biology major collected 121 assists, five service aces and 20 digs against North Park, Wisconsin-Whitewater and Transylvania last week.
