HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 2, 2024) – The Holland City Council is expected to address a tax abatement situation, along with setting up annual downtown assessments, during its scheduled biweekly business meeting on Wednesday night.
A procedural announcement of upcoming public hearings is on the agenda for those assessments involving Principal Shopping District participation, snowmelt, and downtown parking. On October 16th, council will be asked to approve a three-cent per square foot increase for being in the PSD, raising that rate to an even 25 cents, along with expanding the PSD footprint to include properties along East 6th and East 7th streets from Central to Columbia Avenues. In addition, snowmelt and downtown parking fees for affected property owners would climb three percent for 2025 if approved by the governing panel.
Council will also be asked to approve a tax assessment of over $12,000 for By-Pas International. That Zeeland-based cleaning product maker had received a 12-year break on property off of West 64th Street south of West Michigan Regional Airport in May of 2022 for a planned $1.3 million build out, but By-Pas decided against that expansion and moved its operations there to its current complex off of Production Court this past May 31st. City officials want to keep the abatement in place for the time being on that West 64th site as a possible incentive for a future tenant to use.
The Holland City Council’s 6 PM meeting is in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
