PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 29, 2024) – Two persons are dead following a high-speed dash out of a south side convenience store, gun shots ringing out, and a crash into a tree during the overnight hours of Sunday morning.
According to Holland Department of Public Safety Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, an officer was dispatched to the Speedway store off of Washington Avenue and 33rd Street at 2:24 AM, on a report of several persons fighting. As the unnamed officer stepped out of his cruiser and began to walk toward the store, a silver-colored vehicle suddenly sped off at a high rate of speed with its lights off, heading west, with the sound of gun shots heard that apparently came from that vehicle.
By the time the officer was able to get back into his vehicle and pursue the suspect’s vehicle, it had went onto 32nd Avenue westbound, still driving in the dark. It then went past the city limits and failed to negotiate a curve when West 32nd Avenue turns into South Shore Drive, leaving the roadway and smashing into a tree. Two persons inside of that vehicle were found dead.
Other HDPS officers responding to the incident talked with neighbors near the convenience store who heard the gunshots, but no victims were initially located, and there didn’t appear to be any indication as to who or what the suspects were shooting at.
No names of the suspects were immediately disclosed, as the case is now being handled by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Holland Public Safety (616-355-1150) or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
