UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 26, 2024) – There’s some good news, and some bad news, for motorists beginning on Monday.
First, the bad. Michigan Department of Transportation contractors will block off 112th Avenue at Business 196 through mid-September. This is to accommodate the reconstruction of the westbound lanes of the state trunk route, and is part of the ongoing rebuild of the divided highway that began in mid-April and isn’t expected to be completed until Thanksgiving.
In addition, 48th Avenue west of Hudsonville will be blocked off, from Chicago Drive (M-121) to Port Sheldon Street, from Monday through Halloween. This is to accommodate the installation of a new 24-inch water transmission main by Georgetown Township, a multi-phase project that will necessitate a similar closure from next May through next August.
However, two other road construction projects are apparently completed ahead of schedule. A roundabout at the intersection of Cedar Street, Hubbard Street, Ely Street, Jenner Drive and Marshall Street in Allegan – better known as the junction where M-89 veers off to the east towards Otsego and M-40 heads south towards Gobles, opened to traffic this past Friday. In addition, a roundabout at Blue Star Highway and Old Allegan Road east of Saugatuck is now complete.
Many road projects statewide will be suspended on Friday for the upcoming four-day Labor Day holiday weekend.
