HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 22, 2024) – Things are a little different to the start of the academic year at Hope College in 2024.
Instead of the Friday franticness in and around the campus, members of the class of 2028 are asked to report to the dorms on Thursday for the start of new student orientation that evening. Local motorists should avoid the campus area during the mid-morning to mid-afternoon hours in order for the move-in process to go smoothly.
Among those on the welcome wagon is school president Matthew Scogin.
Enrollment and retention numbers should be available sometime next month, but Scogin is confident that Hope’s student body will be at or near record high levels.
Returning students should be coming into Holland on Saturday.
Among the other changes is having Scogin address the students, faculty and staff during the Opening Convocation at the Jack Miller Center for the Performing Arts at 2 PM on Sunday. The event has been moved from the DeVos Fieldhouse, with a subsequent restriction as to live attendance, but an online video stream of the proceedings will be available through the school’s website and YouTube Channel.
In addition, the start of classes for the 163rd Academic Year at Hope College is set for Monday instead of Tuesday, in order to extend the Thanksgiving holiday break to a five-day weekend, from Wednesday, November 27th, through Sunday, December 1st.
