Mark A Rett, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Mark was born in Miami, FL but raised in Jackson, MI. He came to Holland to attend Hope College where he met his wife, Robin. Mark enjoyed a successful career in accounting and finance. He and his family attended Immanuel Church, and his faith was the cornerstone of his being. It was important for Mark to give back via public service: he was a valued member of the Rotary Club, volunteered at Gateway Mission, Community Action House, and spent years as the church treasurer.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s later in life, Mark’s commitment to support programs at Evergreen Commons showcased his resilient spirit, and he had a compelling connection with others who shared his diagnosis.
Mark’s life was filled with an unwavering love for baseball. He played ball his whole life, from his school’s baseball team to the church softball team to the Douglas Dutchers. He spent decades umpiring for the City of Holland, and his whole life rooting for the Detroit Tigers. And while heaven may have gained a shortstop, he will be deeply missed by those who remain.
Mark is survived by his wife, Robin Rett; children: Douglas (Melisa Rett) Rett, Jessica (Sam Cumming) Rett, Adam (Lindsey Proctor) Rett; grandsons: Theo and Lorenzo Cumming; siblings: Lisa (John) Butterfield and Eric (Ruth) Rett; as well as Aunt Mary Maddalena, Uncle Roger and extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Mark A Rett will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Immanuel Church, 325 104th Ave Holland, MI 49423. Memorial contributions may be given to the Centre de Sante Lumiere Hospital in Haiti. www.servingincayes.com/donate
