Jay E. Hop age 92, of Holland, went home to glory on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at an area care center.
He was a member of Messiah’s Independent Reformed Church where he had served as an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. Jay grew up as a farm boy and worked as a contractor and retired as a rural mail carrier after 40 years. He served over 40 years with Fillmore Township and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving from 1952-1954.
Jay was preceded in death by an infant son, Duane; siblings, Carl Hop, Edgar Hop, Marilyn Ryzenga, Ruth Hulst.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley (Zoet); children Daryl and Renee Hop (Tyler and Andrea Hop, Joshua and Jenna Hop, Amber and Eben Amankwah, Laura and Jordan Mast, Leah and Mike Vriezema); Ken and Mary Schreur (Kari and Mike Zwagerman, Jenna and Joel Riemersma, Benjamin and Sara Schreur); Mark and Jan Hop (Jamie Hop, Jolynn and Doug Patmos, Jill and Matt Nagelkirk, Jonathan and Abby Hop); and Loren and Linnea Hop (Rachel and Jake Vander Wall, Luke Hop, April Hop); 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Siblings, Norma Klingenberg, Wayne and Bev Hop, Ronald Hulst, Glenn and Kathy Hop; many nieces and nephews.
Jay’s family would love to thank the staff at Appledorn South for their amazing love and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be 12 noon Friday, August 16, 2024 at Messiah’s Independant Reformed Church, A4528 48th St, Holland with Rev. Dr. Breno Macedo officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 10:45 am Friday in Pilgrim Home Cemetery prior to the service (south side). Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 15, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Holland Christian Schools and MERF-Middle East Reformed Fellowship.
