ALLEGAN TWP., MI (WHTC/WKZO) – A week after the death of Dean Kapenga, the Allegan County Board has put into motion the process of choosing his successor.
On Monday, Aug. 12, the county issued a public notice seeking applications for filling the District 3 vacancy on the governing panel. According to state law, that seat must be filled by September 4th to serve the remainder of Mr. Kapenga’s eighth two-year term, through the end of 2024. He passed away last Monday, August 5, after suffering a stroke three days earlier, and his funeral service was this past Saturday.
The requirements for any applicants are that they must live and be registered voters within District 3, which includes the cities of the Village of Douglas, Fennville, Saugatuck, and the northern part of South Haven in Allegan County, along with the townships of Casco, Cheshire, Clyde, Ganges, Lee, Manilus and Saugatuck.
The week-long period in which applications will be accepted runs through 5 PM next Monday, August 19th. Forms can be acquired through the county’s administrative offices (3283 122nd Ave., Allegan Twp.), and applications can also be made online through the county’s website.
