GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/WKZO-FM) – A 49-year-old Wayland woman is a wanted fugitive from the law.
On Saturday, July 27, WOOD-TV reported that federal warrants have been issued for the arrest of Leticia Gallarzo after she failed to show for sentencing this week at US District Court in Grand Rapids. She had pled guilty last November to charges of making a false statement in a medical record affecting a health care benefit, and aggravated identity theft. Gallarzo had faced up to five years in prison on the first charge, and a mandatory two additional years for aggravated identity theft.
The Grand Rapids television station reported that she already has been convicted in two states for impersonating a registered nurse, including four such accusation in Texas. She came to Allegan County two years ago and obtained a nursing job by using the identity of an actual nurse.
“It is clear that to date she has had zero respect for the law. She is an extreme danger to the public. It is just a matter of time before her antics truly injure someone.’’ – Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald M. Stella in a federal sentencing memorandum.
WOOD-TV adds that Gallarzo, who had been free on bond since the November plea, reportedly violated that bond by leaving the state in January and using a fake Illinois driver’s license to get a job as a physician assistant in a Chicago suburb.
