ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO-AM/FM, WHTC-AM/FM) – The changing look of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department continues.
On the heels of last November’s switch from brown uniforms to black uniforms come news this week that deputies will now be driving Chevrolet Tahoe PPV vehicles for patrol use, converting from the Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle that had been in place for a number of years.
In a department statement, Sergeant Kyle Baker explained that the cost of the Ford vehicle had increased by over $10,000 the past three years to a level nearly that of the Chevrolet, and the availability of the Ford has also become less reliable, compelling cancellation of orders after several months of waiting.
Pluses that the Tahoe brings to the department include more storage space, along with an increased resale value when the vehicles are eventually deemed surplus to requirements.
Not only will deputies be driving new vehicles, the color scheme will also change from Arizona Beige to solid black.
The new Allegan County Sheriff’s Departments prowl cars should be deployed shortly, if they haven’t been out on county roads already.
