HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 22, 2024) – One person died and another was seriously injured after a trailer carrying a boat broke free from the truck carrying it on Sunday afternoon in an incident on Holland’s North Side.
No names were immediately disclosed by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Nicholas Knott. Deputies were dispatched to the area of Quincy Street and 140th Avenue around 2 PM. That was where the truck, driven by a 44-year-old Holland man, was towing a pontoon boat westbound when the trailer broke free and struck two persons who were walking along a non-motorized path, trapping them underneath.
One of the pedestrians, a 62-year-old Holland person, died at the scene, while the other, a 38-year-old Holland resident, was flown to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital for treatment. The driver was not hurt.
Knott gave few other details about the incident, including what led to the trailer disengaging from the truck, as the matter remains under investigation.
