HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 18, 2024) – The last of four candidate forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Holland Area ahead of the August 6 Primary Election is on Thursday evening on Holland’s North Side.
Beginning at 6:30 PM at the Ottawa County Health and Human Services Building off of James Street, attendees and others will get a chance to meet and formally ask questions of those running for Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff. With Lee Fisher and Steve Kempker, respectively, retiring at year’s end, it’s seen as a battle of their endorsed successors against challengers backed by the Ottawa County Republican Party for the GOP nomination. Sarah Matwiejczyk is the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, going up against attorney Greg Todd for Prosecutor, while Undersheriff Eric DeBoer is being challenged by interim County Administrator Jon Anderson for Sheriff. There are no Democrats running in either race.
The public is invited to attend and to submit questions to a LWV moderator, who will determine which queries will be put forward to the candidates. Those unable to attend can submit questions through this link.
A video of the entire LWV forum involving Ottawa County Board Districts 1-2, as well as one with the opening statements of the forum involving Ottawa County Board Districts 5-6-7, are currently on the league’s YouTube channel, while last night’s session spotlighting contested primary races for Allegan County Sheriff, Prosecuting Attorney, and a 48th Circuit Court vacancy, should be available soon, according to LWV officials.
