DOUGLAS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 16, 2024) – The third of four candidate forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Holland Area ahead of the August 6 Primary Election is on Wednesday evening.
Beginning at 6 PM at the Saugatuck/Douglas Library (170 Center St., Douglas), candidates for sheriff and prosecuting attorney have been invited to a meet and greet with attendees. Incumbents Sheriff Frank Baker and Prosecutor Myrene Koch are being challenged in the Republican Primary by Dean Brandt for sheriff and Michael Villar for prosecutor. There are no Democrats running in either race.
Following that session, those running for a newly-created seat on the 48th Circuit Court bench will be involved in a candidate forum. Alice Bernal, Emily Jipp and Elizabeth Petersen are looking to join Margaret Bakker, Matt Antkoviak and Michael Buck in wearing judicial robes in Allegan. The public is invited to attend and to submit questions to a LWV moderator, who will determine which queries will be put forward to the candidates. Those unable to attend can submit questions through this link.
The league has one final candidate forum set for 6:30 PM on Thursday night at the Ottawa County Health and Human Services Building (12265 James St., Holland Twp.) for Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff.
A video of the entire LWV forum involving Ottawa County Board Districts 1-2, as well as one with the opening statements of the forum involving Ottawa County Board Districts 5-6-7, are on the league’s YouTube channel.
