ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 10, 2024) – The second of four candidate forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Holland Area ahead of the August 6 Primary Election is on Thursday evening.
Beginning at 6:30 PM, all the hopefuls for seats on the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners for districts 5, 6 and 7 have been invited to a 90-minute question-and-answer session at Hager Park (8212 28th Ave.) near Jenison. Board Chairman Joe Moss is being challenged in district 5 by Hudsonville Mayor Mark Northrup in the Republican primary, with Jon Rabideau running unopposed for the Democratic nomination. Incumbent Kendra Wenzel in district 6 is being challenged by Shawn Haff in the Republican primary, with Michelle Dieleman running unopposed for the Democratic nomination. Rachel Atwood and John Teeples are vying for the Republican spot in distict 7, with Heather Majestic running unopposed for the Democratic nomination, and incumbent Rebecca Curran not seeking reelection.
The public is invited to attend and to submit questions to a LWV moderator, who will determine which queries will be put forward to the candidates. Those unable to attend can submit questions through this link.
The league has other candidate forums set for 6 PM next Wednesday evening at the Saugatuck/Douglas Library (174 Center St.), centering on contested primary races for Allegan County Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff, and for 6:30 PM next Thursday night, July 18th, at the Ottawa County Health and Human Services Building (12185 James St.) on Holland’s North Side for Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff.
