HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 20, 2024) – Utilizing land that had been at one time a dump into a recreational hub isn’t new for the City of Holland.
With the backdrop of Window on the Waterfront Park and the under-construction Ice Ribbon outdoor skating facility comes a proposal to convert a parcel of city land off of the northern base of the Unity Bridge into a Bike Park. During Wednesday night’s biweekly Holland City Council meeting, the governing panel heard from the city’s Recreation Deputy Director Garrett Thelen about such a concept that would create three acres of paved and unpaved paths for beginning and intermediate cyclists to have fun and develop new skills.
Council unanimously approved a $42,000 contract with American Ramp Company to design the proposed park, with the understanding that the overall cost for building it could be 10 times that much when the concepts are converted into a construction project. American Ramp is expected to come back with its design proposal later this year.
