SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 16, 2024) – The second of two treatments for a scourge in Kalamazoo Lake and Kalamazoo Harbor near the mouth of the Kalamazoo River is is set for Tuesday.
The city of Saugatuck has retained Aquatic Doctors to treat the area, weather conditions permitting. Residents and visitors are asked to notice and follow the instructions on the 14″x11” yellow signs that will indicate the date, chemicals used, and use restrictions for swimming, lawn watering, and fish consumption.
It’s to combat the Eurasian Water Milfoil, according to Saugatuck City Manager Ryan Cummins.
An earlier treatment was on June 11th. Aquatic Doctors had estimated the total cost of this project at $74,750, which was borne by the city last year after property owners along the affected area had balked at being invoiced two years ago.
