GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 31, 2024) – The summer vacation season is underway, and a reminder about watching for youngsters darting into roadways came in the form of a pickup hitting a 14-year-old boy near Jenison on Friday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Tamminga, a 79-year-old Hudsonville man was driving east on Baldwin Street around 3 PM. As he passed 12th avenue and neared Walnut Avenue, a basketball had rolled onto the roadway, and the youth sped out to retrieve it. The motorist swerved to try and avoid hitting the teen, but was unable to, and the front bumper of the truck hit the boy, causing what Tamminga said were moderate injuries,
As the teen was taken to an undisclosed “local” hospital for treatment, the motorist was unhurt. No names were disclosed as the incident remains under investigation.
