Alma Staal, age 83, of Holland, passed away Monday, May 27,2024, at her home.
Alma taught at Borculo Christian School from 1961-1964, then married Sidney Staal, her husband for 61 years. She left teaching to raise her family. She eventually went back to work at the Flashes newspaper and later for VML. After retirement, she volunteered at Bibles for Mexico. Alma loved to travel. Sid and Alma drove all of Route 66, Highway 2, the Lincoln Highway, and visited the 48 contiguous states by car. She found relaxation and joy in quilting and scrapbooking. Alma was a member of Niekerk Christian Reformed Church where she served as a Head Counselor of Calvinettes and created the first children’s bulletins.
Alma was preceded in death by her son, Mike Staal; parents, Harold and Alice Albers; parents-in-law, Sam and Minnie Staal; and in-laws, Spencer Boeve, Herschel Kuipers, and Gert and Dale Eding.

Funeral services are planned for 1:00pm Friday, May 31, at Niekerk Christian Reformed Church, 545 Country Club Rd, with Rev. Darren Kornelis officiating (livestreamed at https://niekerkcrc.org/sermons ). Burial will be in Overisel Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00-7:00pm on Thursday, May 30 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds, Hudsonville Christian School, and Hospice of Holland.
