Arthur was born February 2, 1954, in Niles, Michigan, to Walter and Annamae (Britton) Mills. He graduated from high school and went on to train at The Salvation Army Seminary in Chicago. Art met Melody Pipes from Michigan City, Indiana, and they attended seminary together and were married on April 28, 1973. Art and Melody served in The Salvation Army for 14 years in Minnesota and Indiana when Art was in ministry. They moved to Holland, where Art served in Salvation Army Social Services until his retirement in 2017.
Art enjoyed cooking and working out new recipes. He loved reading (especially Harry Potter), the Detroit Tigers, and Bible Study. He will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Phillip Mills, David Mills, Rose Blakely.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Melody, their son Art Jr. and Heather Mills, grandchildren: Deanna Mills and fiancé Bryan Hixson, Alex Mills-Wolf and Sara Mills-Wolf; siblings: Walter and Ruthann Mills, Ruthann and Geno Rodriguez, Robert and Mary Mills, Mike and Judy Mills; father-in-law: Claude and LaDonna Pipes, in-laws: Claudia and Rob Simpson, John and Jacqi Euler; and many extended family members.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, June 2, 2024, at The Salvation Army Church, 104 Clover Ave., Holland MI 49423.
