UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, May 25, 2024) – While the summer vacation season is underway this weekend, the reason for the holiday will be well remembered along the Lakeshore and throughout the country on Monday.
Holland will be among a number of communities holding Memorial Day commemorations, with a 9:30 AM parade through 8th Street downtown to Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Mike Martin and the Holland Area Veterans Council organizes both events.

Also on Monday: Zeeland’s Memorial Day Parade begins at 9 AM at Main and Maple, with a ceremony at Zeeland Cemetery; Olive Township’s service at the Olive Township Cemetery is at 10:30 AM, with a memory walk afterward to the township museum for a luncheon; Saugatuck’s Memorial Day parade is at 9 AM at Culver Street to the Veterans Monument in Village Square/Saugatuck Park; Hudsonville’s Memorial Day Service is at Veterans’ Park at 10 AM; Coopersville’s Memorial Day parade is at 9:30 AM from East Street to Veterans Park for a ceremony there; and Jenison’s Memorial Day parade is at 9 AM along Baldwin Street from 20th Avenue to Cottonwood Drive, with a memorial service afterward at the Georgetown Township cemetery.
