HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 13, 2024) – Now that Tulip Time is over, one of the busier intersections east of Holland is closing.
Contractors from the Michigan Department of Transportation will close the junction of 112th Avenue at Business 196 on Monday morning. This is for crews to completely overhaul the eastbound lanes of the state trunk road as part of an overall rebuilding of the highway. This closure is slated to run through early June.
Similar work on 120th Avenue/Waverly Road at the Business Loop that was supposed to go through the Memorial Day weekend was completed, to a point, on Saturday, several days ahead of schedule. That roadway is now open for north-south traffic.
Other junctions along Business 196, from US-31 to 88th Avenue, will be shut down at various times until the work on the eastbound lanes is completed in August. The westbound rebuild will then commence, with similar closures slated through Thanksgiving.
Motorists can keep up with the latest developments on this major reconstruction project through MDOT’s MiDrive webpage, a link to which is here.
