HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 3, 2024) – The 95th Tulip Time Festival officially kicks off on Saturday morning.
Actually, the festivities began unofficially on Thursday evening with the first dress rehearsal of Dutch Dancing. The youngsters and adult dancers promenade again at Centennial Park tonight, beginning at 6:30 PM, while the Carnival opens up at 5 PM this evening just outside of the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place, and the Tulip City Open Pickleball Tournament to benefit Gateway Mission is this afternoon at the MVP Athletic Club.
One annual headache that Executive Director Gwen Auwerda and her staff have to deal with is the issue of directing traffic from The Out of Towners into the Tulip City for all of the tulips and activities.
A bigger issue this year may be getting those visitors out, with Business 196 eastbound blocked off in general, and no longer existing in some parts, due to a lengthy renovation project. Adams Street and M-40 will be seeing additional traffic as the main routes out of Holland for those heading east.
Two attractions slated for Saturday have already sold out – the VIP Tour around town during the day, and the Dancing Queen Abba Salute at the Civic Center Place in the evening. An online link to more information on the Tulip Time Festival is here.
