Andrew (Drew) McLean Carter, age 56, of Fennville passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, while in Hospice Care during his final stage of Huntington’s Disease.
Drew was born February 21, 1968, in Port Huron, Michigan. He was the son of the late Charles and Shirley Carter. He graduated in 1985 from Marysville High School. Drew was active in his high school marching band and was a member of his church’s youth group choir.
Drew was a simple man who always put other’s first. His kind and generous soul was uplifting. Before being diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 2010, he loved to entertain and was always at hand to offer another glass of wine, or an extra helping of food. His love of food was evident in the dinners he would prepare and share with everyone. This passion for people and service landed him in the restaurant/hospitality management business. He served in several management positions at places such as The Peninsular Club in Grand Rapids, and restaurants in Chicago such as Lawry’s Prime Rib, River’s Restaurant and Tavern at the Park. When Drew moved to the Saugatuck area, he assisted his partner Jim in operating The Kirby House Bed and Breakfast and worked at The SuperValu grocery store.
In addition to his life partner Jim Gowran, Drew is survived by his brother Charles (Chuck) Carter.
Dykstra Funeral Home-Saugatuck Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Condolences and memories can be shared at the Dykstra Funeral Home website.
