HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 11, 2024) – Another part of a year-long celebration commemorating the 150th anniversary of the building of one of Holland’s historic landmarks is on Thursday evening.
“Tales from the Archives: Restoring the Cappon House – A Dutch-American Time Capsule” is a 90-minute virtual presentation with former Holland Museum President and Curator Joel Lefever, who will explain about the decade-long process in comprehensively restoring the exterior and interior of the West 9th Street home of Holland’s first mayor to its 1902 appearance. Current Holland Museum Executive Director Ricki Levine says that the effort was indeed Herculean in nature.
The 7 PM virtual event is free, but advance registration through the museum’s website is required. Levine added that the presentation will be recorded for those who cannot view the program live.
Other events currently running or scheduled in connection with the Cappon House anniversary include an exhibit in the Museum’s lobby gallery, and an exhibit on the legacy by Isaac Cappon’s daughter Lavina, who deeded the house (228 W. 9th St.) to the city and museum, and helped preserve its heritage.
