HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 21, 2024) – It was a Wednesday evening of promise for the Tulip City.
During the Holland City Council’s biweekly business meeting, the governing panel approved a 12-year Industrial Facilities Tax Abatement request by Allegan-based generic drug maker Perrigo for a project on Interchange Drive, off of the Lincoln Road M-40/I-196 junction on the south side. Mark Meyers is the city’s point man for economic development in his role as Community and Neighborhood Services Director.
The project is slated for completion by mid-August.
In addition, Council members unanimously approved an $11.3 million budget for the construction of a community ice park at Window on the Waterfront Park. According to City Manager Keith Van Beek, the costs include addressing soil issues at the site off of East 6th Street and College Avenue, along with building the rink, a curling rink and building, purchasing a Zamboni ice resurfacing machine, other necessary equipment, and skates for public rental.
A public fundraising campaign augmented a seed grant of $1 million from local philanthropist Frank Kraai, along with an additional million dollars from the Jim Jurries family. Following a 1 PM groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Tuesday, April 23rd, GDK construction will handle building the facility, with a goal of having it completed by the fall of 2025.
