LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 14, 2024) – A Lakeshore community set its financial future and planned tearing down part of its past this week.
During Wednesday’s business meeting, the Laketown Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved a Fiscal 2025 budget. The $1.95 million dollar spending plan includes a five percent pay hike for staffers, but doesn’t increase the current one-mill tax rate for general operations, or the nearly three-mill levy for fire, roads, non-motorized trails and drains.
The board also OK’d allocating nearly $30,000 to Specialized Demolition, retaining the Hamilton firm to raze an 84-year-old house on the Huyser Farm Park. No timeline was disclosed as to when the structure, built in 1939, will be destroyed. Despite some private efforts to keep and restore the home, the township parks department recommended tearing it down.
