ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 22, 2024) – A 57-year-old Zeeland area man has been arraigned on charges stemming from the death of a 63-year-old woman on New Year’s Day at a manufactured living community east of Holland.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, deputies were dispatched to a unit in the Ottogan Mobile Homes Estates complex off of Ottogan Street west of 84th Avenue on the evening of January 1st, after a call to central dispatch asking to check the well being of a woman that was living there. When they arrived, they found Donna Hyma dead under suspicious circumstances. An autopsy determined that she had been asphyxiated, and a homicide investigation ensued.
It was determined that the victim’s live-in boyfriend, Randall Grinwis, who was nowhere to be seen at the time of Hyma’s death, had fled to Las Vegas, taking some items with him in the process. Warrants for his arrest were issued by the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the sheriff’s department worked with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police detectives in attempting to locate the suspect.
Grinwas was spotted and arrested in the Nevada city on February 9th, and nearly two weeks later, he was extradited back to Michigan. On Thursday, he was arraigned on open murder and larceny charges in Hudsonville District Court, with Judge Judy Mulder ordering him held without bond.
The case remains open, and anyone with any information on the matter is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
