HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 21, 2024) – It was mixed results for local public school districts when they conducted spring student count sessions last week.
In preliminary figures from the February 14th canvassing, Holland Public Schools stood at 2,925 pupils, up 57 from the fall count in October, and 70 from a year ago. Superintendent Nick Cassidy was obviously pleased.
The February count comprises 10 percent of the per-pupil state funding determination, which for Academic 2024 stands at $9,608.
West Ottawa remains the Lakeshore’s largest district by enrollment at 6,693, up 89 from a year ago, while Zeeland’s 6,053 is down 23 from this past fall. Hamilton fell by 25 from October to 2,504, while Saugatuck at 799 was up four from the fall count. Final numbers will be submitted to the Michigan Department of Education by month’s end.
