LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 13, 2024) – For the second time in less than a week, a major winning scratch off lottery ticket was claimed along the Lakeshore.
On Monday, the Michigan Lottery announced that a 64-year-old woman, who wished to remain anonymous, won $500,000 in a Ghostbusters instant game. She said in a department statement that she had been purchasing those tickets since the game was unveiled last September, and plans to use to money to pay off bills, including her home mortgage, and then save the rest.
The winning $5 scratch-off ticket was purchased at a Marathon fueling station/convenience store off of Allegan Street in Plainwell.
“When I went into the gas station to buy a ticket on my way to work, the clerk and I were talking about retirement. When she handed me the ticket, she said: ‘Well, I hope this ticket helps with saving for retirement!’ I scratched the ticket on break later that day and I thought I won $500. My coworker said: ‘You might want to look at that prize amount again.’ When I saw it was actually $500,000, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack!” – Unnamed Lottery Winner
That retailer will receive a cash bonus for selling that ticket.
Last week, three persons in an unnamed Ottawa County lottery club collected the grand prize in the state lottery’s 500X Money Maker Instant Game. These winners, who also chose to remain anonymous, opted for the $4.1 lump sum payment instead of the six million-dollar award that would have been paid in annual installments.
