HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 5, 2024) – The Holland Department of Public Safety has honored two of its own with its highest annual accolade.
On Monday, the department announced that Officer Joy Nelson and Firefighter Taylor Dils were named its Police Office and Firefighter of the Year, respectively. The two were nominated by their peers and selected by command officers for their performance, their commitment, and their character.
Nelson is a 23-year veteran of Police Services as a patrol officer, a community police officer, a school resource officer, a detective, a booking officer, and a field training officer. Dils joined the Fire Operations team as an on-call firefighter 10 years ago, with a promotion to full-time status in 2018, and was instrumental in developing research and data for evaluating waterflow rates in selecting hoses and nozzles needed by the department.
Both Nelson and Dils will represent the Holland Department of Public Safety in a variety of events over the next year as part of being so honored.
