OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 29, 2024) – There will be a new look in Ottawa County government leadership in 2025.
Although the composition of the Board of Commissioners may not be determined until the results of the November 5th General Election are confirmed, there will be a new County Prosecutor, County Treasurer, and a new Sheriff. On Monday, Steve Kempker announced that he would not seek a third four-year term and will retire after a 44-year law enforcement career, the last 35 in the Sheriff’s Department.
“I look forward to spending more time with family and following other areas of interest here within Ottawa County. It has been an honor and privilege to be able to work with so many talented and dedicated professionals over the years. They are dedicated to serving our communities to provide safe and secure environments, providing quality and professional law enforcement services while keeping the victims of crime as their focus. Working with the elected officials at the federal, state, county, and local levels has been an honor, and your support for the Sheriff’s Office has been appreciated over the years.” – Sheriff Steve Kempker.
Kempker, who won election to replace the retiring Gary Rosema in 2016, follows in the footsteps of Lee Fisher, who also opted to retire as Prosecutor after just one four-year term, and Treasurer Amanda Price, who retired at the end of 2023 after five years at the post. In addition, 20th District Court Probate Judge Mark Feyen is also retiring following the conclusion of his current term in 2024.
