HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 24, 2024) – There were no reported injuries after a Wednesday afternoon fire at a business on Holland’s South Side.
Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Operations crews were dispatched to the Midnite Sun Tanning Salon, located in a strip mall off of South Washington Avenue just south of the US-31 junction, around 4:30 PM. They found smoke inside of the business, but all of the staff and customers had safely left the building when firefighters arrived. The blaze, which was contained on a tanning bed, was quickly extinguished, with clearing efforts taking about 45 minutes to complete.
According to Captain of Fire Operations Chris Tinney, an initial investigation showed that damage was contained to a portion of that tanning bed and that structural integrity was not compromised. Although the business should be able to resume normal operations after some additional cleanup, Fire Marshal Bret Groendyke will conduct an thorough investigation to formally determine a cause of the blaze. An estimate of any dollar amount of damage done as a result of this incident wasn’t immediately made.
