Jo was born to Ed and Henrietta Harmsen on January 14, 1928, the oldest of 5 children, and was married to Leslie Hoffman in 1948. The two had 4 children-Linda, Bob, Karen, and Belva.
Jo was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spent many years working on the family farm, and after retiring from farming she worked in the catering department at Hope College and as a volunteer at Bibles for Missions (now Legacy Thrift). Jo was an active and faithful life-long member of Overisel Reformed Church which she attended for nearly 96 years. Some of her many hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, and doing puzzle books.
People were important to Jo; going out to breakfast with groups of friends was a highlight for her each week. She was dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with them whether at home or criss-crossing the country, joining them in their many travels. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children; Linda Johnston, Bob (Sally) Hoffman, Karen (Dennis) Schnell, Belva (Bob) Dubbink; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Dale) Folkert; sister-in-law, Nancee (Ken) Kleinheksel; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Leslie Hoffman in 2003; son-in-law, George Johnston; siblings, Harlene (Harvey) Lubbers, Leona (Ron) Kalmink, Ron Harmsen; in-laws, Burrell (Myrtle) Hoffman, Jason (Gertrude) Hoffman, Eleanor (Melvin) Myaard, Junior (Joan) Hoffman.
