Two Hope College juniors swept Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors on the basketball court.
Center Gabe Quillan (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) is the MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career and the first time this season.
Junior guard Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City) is the MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
Quillan led the Flying Dutchmen to a 76-73 overtime victory against Hanover College (Ind.) on Tuesday. The 6-9 business major played 42 of 45 minutes, leading Hope with 24 points, 13 rebounds, two blocked shots, and two assists.
Quillan buried the game-winning shot from outside the 3-point line when the team was down two points with 26 seconds left in overtime.
Bellows, an elementary education major, assisted the Flying Dutch to a 2-0 start to the conference campaign, including a 68-51 win at Albion on Wednesday and an 81-43 victory at home over Olivet on Saturday.
While only playing 16 1/2 minutes per game last week, Bellows totaled 26 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. Bellows went 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and had four 3s.
